Things to Know Before You Go to Mount Evans!

Weather can quickly change in this environment with snow occurring any day of the year, including summer! Thunder and lightning occur frequently in the high alpine If caught in a lightning storm, retreat to your vehicle or get below treeline.

Travelers to 10,000 feet often experience mild elevation sickness.  Shortness of breath, mild headaches, fatigue, dizziness, and nausea are common side effects. Descend to a lower elevation if your symptoms are extreme. For every thousand feet of elevation gain, the sun is 5% stronger. Protect yourself by wearing a hat and applying zinc oxide sunscreen.
