Fire Management: Human Caused Fires

Human-caused fires have long been part of an ecosystem but human interactions have increased their occurrence. In 2012 alone, wildfires caused over 117 million dollars in damage to property within Colorado and took human lives. Often, human-caused fires are more massive and aggressive than natural fires. In recent statistics, human caused fires accounted for 99% of the acres burned from wildfires from 2000 to 2010 in Northern Colorado. These increases are caused by increased numbers of visitors combined with mismanaged campfires, burning of trash, car exhaust systems, and irresponsible shooting at firearm targets. Be aware of fire prevention practices.
