505. Long Draw Road and Reservoir

This 13-mile road winds its way through pine, spruce, and fir forests along highway 14, breaking out into an incredible vista at La Poudre Pass at 10,384 feet elevation. Along the way, you'll pass Trap Lake--often the site of browsing moose--and nearby Trap Lake Trail, numbered dispersed camping sites, tantalizing glimpses of views to come, creekside fishing spots, two campgrounds, and cutthroat trout-filled Long Draw Reservoir.

Completed in 1930 to hold water from the 1890 Grand Ditch in Rocky Mountain National Park, Long Draw Reservoir brings water from the west slope of the Continental Divide to thirsty northern Colorado communities and farms on the east side.
