209. Trails & Trailheads at Brainard Lake Recreation Area

Brainard Gateway Trailhead:  A large parking area at this trailhead provides access to many destinations. Photographers will enjoy the scenic view. Access to several trails can be found here including the Sourdough and Waldrop.

The Sourdough Trail:  This trail is located outside the Brainard Lake Recreation Area but features 15 miles of trail that can be accessed from the Brainard Gateway Trailhead. The trail is popular for mountain bikers, campers, dog owners, trail runners, hikers and fisherman. Head north for stream fishing along the South Saint Vrain Creek.

Little Raven Trail:  This trail crosses the Lefthand Park Reservoir Road and connects to the Sourdough to the east. The west portion of this trail continues to Brainard Lake. It’s a great trail for a mountain bike ride or hike. In winter, it is open only to cross-country skiers.

Hiking trails to the west of the BLRA enter into the Indian Peaks Wilderness. Visitors that hike trails leading west from the Long Lake or Mitchell Lake Trailheads are responsible for following all Indian Peaks Wilderness Regulations and permit requirements (see link below).
